The Seminar of the Cono Sur, in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, held on April 18 and 21, showed propositions that will be included in the preparatory documents to the International Cultural Forum
During four days, from April 18 though April 21, 2004, about 1.200 participants were involved in lectures, debates, communications, artistic performances and films at the Seminar of the Cono Sur, in Foz do Iguaçu. Attending this seminar, representatives from cities of the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as from other states and countries such as: Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay. The Seminar of the Cono Sur presented forty one propositions as well as guide-lines about the administration of a national System for Culture and its rapport with Latin American countries. Among these propositions, we especially selected the following three:
"To increase the number of actions favorable to a culture of tolerance, respect, integration and peace";
"To encourage and support cultural actions aiming to undo the negative image that national and international press convey about the Triple Border, formed by Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, including the adjacent cities";
"To aggregate cultural identity to products and services, incorporating elements of the culture of the countries of Cono Sur that could enable our producers to access the competitive export market with fair chances".
The Seminar was organized by the Secretary of Culture of the State of Paraná.
