The biggest city in Latin América hosts the WCF
São Paulo is the biggest city in Latin América with 17 million inhabitants spread in an área of approximately 1.509 km². It is the main economical centre in Brazill, with business deals rating around US$ 76 billion and a GDP equivalent to 10% of the national GDP. The city is considered the cultural capital of Brazil for its sessions of oforchestras, operas, ballets and exhibitions housed in its museusn and theatres. The city has more than 60 museuns,170 theatres, 34 cultural centres, more than 220 cinemas, 70 libraries, 30 Concert Halls, parks, Art galleries and a great number of historical buildings of great architetonic beauty
São Paulo also hosts Fairs, auditions and events welcoming artists from Brazil and overseas.The Art Museun of São Paulo (Av. Paulista, 1578) houses one of the best collections of Art in Brazil ranging from european to Brazilian collections both ancient and modern. Pieces from Rembrandt, Rubens, Renoir, Toulose-Lautrec and Raphael are present there. Ibirapuera Park and MAM (Av. Pedro Alvares Cabral) which will also host several events of the Fórum, was designed by the artistis Burle Marx and Oscar Niemeyer..Ibirapuera park is one of the biggest parks in the city There are also many other interesting places like the planetarium, the japanese pavillion, the Folklore Museun and MAN (the Museun of Modern Art),Oca (a room that recalls an indigenous dwelling and a home for temporary exhibitions) as well as the “ Peace square” (praça da paz) place which held various national and international concerts.
The municipal theatre is one of the most important and impressive buildings of the city. It was opened in 1911. Its eclectic style reminds the Opera theatre in Paris. Designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo its stage housed many important cultural demonstrations especially international ones.The municipal theatre will house the opening ceremony of the World Cultural Forum on June 29. The ceremony will be opened to invited guests only.
The municipal theatre (teatro municipal) is located in one of the most urban environments of São Paulo - the Anhangabaú valley and is known for its acurate acustics and for its impressive architecture.The building ,which occupies an área of 3.600 square kilometres, was restored in 1991. In its interior one will find fanciful ornaments which combines marble, plaster, paintings, mirrors and stucco.
Opened on July 9, 1999, the cultural complex Julio Prestes is located on the site of the old railway station also called Julio Prestes. The builidng was totally restored by the state government as part of a project to breathe new life into the city centre.The place houses the so called “Sala São Paulo” with the capacity for1.509 people. It also headquarters the Synphonic Orchestra of the state of São Paulo.It´s a place for the presentation of Synphonic and Chamber Orchestras and was built according to the most solid and modern international standarts. It is even compared to the 3 best Concert Halls in the world: the Boston Symphonic Hall, the Musikvereinssaal in Viena and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdan. |
