The Peruvian choreographer and researcher Cristina Velarde guides practices connected to her repertoire and creative ways in this great open class where participants are invited to come closer and have a collective practical experience. Called Waves and Space, the meeting draws from dynamics of movement to understand how spinal waves and spatial visualization allow us to enjoy broad and fluid dancing. Cristina, who is bringing the show El Presidente Más Feliz [The Happiest President] to the festival, investigates the desires and expectations of the individual as a social being, navigating the intimate, the political, and the absurd.
Cristina Velarde is a choreographer, performative researcher, and professor at the Performing Arts Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. She has a law degree and concluded her master’s thesis in European live performance art at the Free University of Brussels. Over the course of her experience, she has collaborated with different artists from Peru and other countries.
