RESUMO
O artigo analisa a relação entre a Antropologia e os estudos de folclore
e cultura popular, mostrando que, apesar dos distanciamentos entre essas
áreas, há uma convergência na produção de conhecimento sobre outros gru-
pos sociais, buscando tanto inventariar a diversidade como pensar a dife-
rença. A partir dessa constatação, o artigo analisa como se deu, no Brasil,
a relação entre a Antropologia e a produção de intelectuais, artistas e mili-
tantes ocupados com os temas e fenômenos do folclore e das culturas popu-
lares. São desveladas as tensões entre folcloristas, modernistas e cientistas
sociais, bem como a recente emergência de sujeitos coletivos das culturas
populares como agentes políticos e produtores de conhecimento. O artigo
conclui que tal processo resultou na emergência de novas perspectivas que
reconhecem a pluralidade epistemológica e se pautam pelo protagonismo de
sujeitos coletivos que antes figuravam apenas como objeto de estudo.

ABSTRACT
The paper examines the relationship between anthropology and the
study of folklore and popular culture, showing that despite their differen-
ces, these fields converge in the production of knowledge about other social
groups, seeking both to inventory cultural diversity and to understand dif-
ference. Based on this observation, the article analyzes how was built, in
Brazil, the relationship between anthropology and the work of intellectuals,
artists, and activists engaged with the issues and phenomena of folklore and
popular cultures. It highlights the tensions among folklorists, modernists,
and social scientists, as well as the recent emergence of collective subjects
from popular cultures as political agents and knowledge producers. The pa-
per concludes that this process resulted in the emergence of new perspectives
that recognize epistemological plurality and are guided by the protagonism
of collective subjects who were previously treated solely as objects of study.
